Dell Studio 17 / 15 Touch Buttons Fix

For anyone who has a Dell Studio 17 / 15, if the touch buttons close to the screen, (Media Direct, back, stop, play/pause, forward, mute, softer, louder, and eject) ever stop working. You can try this. My problem was that one of the buttons stayed lit up, even upon restarting and reinstalling QuickSet (try that first). If you still have problems, try the following. Shut down your computer, remove the ac cord, and the battery, and then hold the power button for about 30 seconds. This drains residual power from the motherboard, which in my case, fixed it.

  1. Thank you so much I just got my studio 17 today and the buttons weren't working I did what you recommended and it worked! I really didn't want to have to send it back already. Thank you so much.

  7. does this fix it permanently for everyone on here? because I tried it and they started to work but now I've started my laptop up again the next day and the buttons aren't responding again!!?!

  8. To the above, it worked permanently for me, at least. If it keeps happening, it could be a permanent flaw. Use this fix for about a week, I would say. If it happens consistently, you probably will have to send it in.

  9. My studio 15's volume touch button was lit up as if being pushed when I turned on the computer. Similar to a key pushed when you start the laptop, the computer was beeping constantly. I tried the method above, turned it on, the light was off and it wasn't beeping anymore. Thanks!

  11. I have this problem as well. Seems like many people with a Dell studio have this problem. Ever since I got it the eject button goes haywire for a while after powering up, but then it sorts itself out. Lately, the volume button has started lighting up by itself - it even drags the computer out of sleep/hibernation mode when it does so and a volume icon appears on the screen which is impossible to get rid of. Doing a total shut down fixes the problem but only temporarily. It sux that you're not "permitted" just to turn these buttons, which I never use anyway, off.

  15. Well I just received my Studio 17 today. The media buttons work swimmingly, but the eject button doesn't. Neither the touch-sensitive eject nor the regular eject key on the keyboard do anything. Discs must be ejected via right-click on the Bluray drive in Computer.

  20. My Dell 1745 Media Control Buttons Help. I had to reimage my Dell 1745 and now the media control buttons do not display on screen when pressed and the eject button does not respond. Does anyone know how i can fix this. I have tried the battery pull, and reinstalling the drives, am I missing something?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I tried the fix that you posted here and it worked great. i also called my sales rep at dell and she told me this is a common problem with the studio laptops and they have fixed the issue with bios version A06 for my studio 1536. I will check it tonight to make sure it worked.

  22. For the guys trying to install Windows XP on a Vista laptop. You have to have the SATA drivers in order to install XP. You can either make a driver disk accordingly,or find a setup with SATA drivers "injected" already. Hope this helps. As for the Touch Media buttons on my Inspiron 1525...nothing has worked thus far. Gonna order a hinge cover with new media board and see if that is the solution.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Try downloading quickset for vista if your running win7. I upgraded to win7 and quickset broke. Got same message saying will not work with my system.
